Fall Prevention, Transfers & Mobility Safety

Fall Prevention, Transfers & Mobility Safety

Build the practical judgment needed to reduce fall risk, support safe mobility, and respond correctly when an older adult loses balance or falls. This course emphasizes dignity, choice, preparation, approved equipment, caregiver limits, and prompt reporting.

What you will learn

  • Recognize personal, environmental, medication-related, and task-related fall risks
  • Complete a respectful home-safety check without restricting an older adult unnecessarily
  • Prepare for walking, standing, repositioning, and transfers before movement begins
  • Use only equipment and techniques authorized by the care plan and your training
  • Stop when a transfer is unsafe instead of attempting an improvised manual lift
  • Respond after a fall, protect the person from further harm, and report objectively

Safety foundation

CDC’s STEADI resources emphasize practical fall-prevention steps and home-safety tools for older adults and caregivers. OSHA identifies repeated manual lifting, transfers, repositioning, and awkward postures as important sources of caregiver injury. Safe care protects both the older adult and the caregiver.
