Course Overview

This caregiver-development course explains how dementia can affect memory, judgment, communication, mood, and everyday routines. Learners practice respectful communication, recognize common unmet needs behind distress, reduce avoidable safety risks, and respond appropriately when a situation requires help from a supervisor or emergency professional.

  • Describe dementia in plain language without defining a person by a diagnosis.
  • Use calm, person-centered communication when memory or understanding is impaired.
  • Recognize possible triggers behind anxiety, resistance, wandering, or repeated questions.
